IPL 2021: RCB superstar AB de Villiers all set to debut in Nepal’s Everest Premier League: Royal Challengers Bangalore star batsman, AB de Villiers is finally all set to make his debut in Nepal’s Everest Premier League in the 2021 season which is scheduled to take place from September 25 to October 9 this year. After the EPL Managing Director’s constant efforts to bring in stalwart players into the league, AB de Villiers was successfully drafted into the league for the upcoming season. The board tried to get him on board for the previous season but AB de Villiers couldn’t grace the occasion that time due to his unavailability. The 2020 edition of the competition was postponed due to COVID-19.

EPL Managing Director Aamir Akhtar confirmed that AB de Villiers has agreed to play in EPL this year and was delighting while announcing the news. “We are trying our best to bring top international cricketers for EPL to put Nepal in the frame of global cricket. We had tried to bring AB de Villiers the previous season as well but he couldn’t be available.

“This edition he has agreed to be here. If nothing comes in between, he will be playing at the TU grounds for sure,” he told Cricketing Nepal.

Currently, Ab de Villiers is gearing up for IPL 2021 and will be keen on clinching his first IPL title ever.

Nepal’s Everest Premier League (EPL): 

It is a T20 franchise-based competition that was inaugurated in 2016 with the participation of 6 teams, which was graced by both domestic and international players. It was Panchakanya Tej who won the first edition of the league. A total of 3 seasons has been done and dusted so far with the 4th season to come around later this year.

The league has seen so far only a handful of international giants but as the league will progress and get mature, it will see a rise in participation from the international players as well. Dwayne Smith, Kevin O’Brien, Paul Stirling, Rohan Mustafa, Roelof van der Merwe, and Richard Levi are some of the overseas players who have been a part of the League so far.

Chris Gayle, the universe boss was all set to play in the previous season, but due to the outbreak of a coronavirus-induced pandemic, the league was postponed indefinitely. It is speculated that Chris Gayle might feature in the 2021 edition of EPL but no conformity has been rolled out by the board yet.
