Hasaranga was delighted to be called up the IPL 2021 Phase 2, which kicks off next month in the UAE. The Sri Lankan spinner took to social media to express his delight and said that it was a dream come true moment for him. The 24-year-old took to Instagram and wrote, “I am excited, honoured, and thrilled all at once” having watched RCB over the years on TV to finally joining them.
Royal Challengers confirmed their purchase of three players, Wanindu Hasranga, Dushmantha Chameera and Tim David as replacements for Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa, Daniel Sams, Fin Allen, and Scott Kuggeleijn. Hasaranga was amongst the shrewdest picks and a host of other franchises were also gunning for the Sri Lankan spinner’s signature. The 24-year-old starred during the series against India and is currently No.2 in the list of T20I bowlers in ICC Rankings.

Hasaranga is an able contributor with the bat and could solve RCB’s No.7 woes. The franchise tried the likes of Daniel Sams, Dan Christian and Shahbaz Ahmed at the role during Phase 1, but Hasaranga’s addition could further beef up their batting and provide much-needed balance. The leg-spinner could form a lethal combination with star man Yuzvendra Chahal and could be a force to reckon with on slow turning tracks in the UAE.
