IPL 2021: Next IPL in London? Sadiq Khan vows to bring IPL to England-In the upcoming years, Fans in England can catch LIVE IPL action with big players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma smashing it all around the park. Ahead of re-election, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has vowed that he promised the unprecedented. Khan said that he is set to spearhead a campaign to bring the world’s richest cricket league- IPL- to England’s capital. In a recent interview, he said that the people in London are hungry to watch Kohli, Sharma, Rohit Sharma in the World’s renowned cricket ground- Lord’s and Kia Oval.

“I know Londoners are hungry to see more of the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant and, with two of the World’s greatest cricket grounds in Lord’s and The Kia Oval, London is ideally placed to host IPL matches,” Sadiq Khan said as quoted by Reuters.

IPL has been previously played in South Africa and UAE but not in England. Over the years, the T20 league has achieved huge growth, emerging as the top cash-rich league, attracting millions of viewers every season. The 14th edition of the cash-rich league, IPL 2021, is set to kick off on Friday with Kohli’s RCB facing off defending champions Mumbai Indians.

Coming back to Khan, he is seeking re-election in May. The latter has said that he will work with authorities to make the IPL latest league to stage matches in London. It has already hosted Major League Baseball and National League successfully in the past.

“Part of my plan to build a better London after the pandemic,” Reuters quoted him as saying.

He added that bringing IPL to London will not only guarantee a home crowd but also tourism and generate revenue.

“I will never stop banging the drum for investment in our city and bringing the Indian Premier League to London would not only guarantee a home crowd for every country but boost tourism and generate much-needed revenue to help get our capital back on its feet,” Khan signed off.
