IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals‘ new skipper Sanju Samson and new recruit Shivam Dube reached Mumbai on Friday to join the squad ahead of IPL 2021 campaign. Following a 7-day mandatory quarantine, both will hit the camp at Wankhede Stadium. RR, who tweeted the duo’s arrival, will face Punjab Kings in their first match on April 12.

Sanju Samson, who replaced Steve Smith as the team’s captain for IPL 2021, will be eager to inspire the team with some fantastic knock. It will also be his first real test as a captain and the team’s turnaround from a disappointing IPL 2020 campaign.

In an interview after the IPL 2021 auction, Rajasthan Royals’ COO, Jake Lush McCrum, said the franchise decided unanimously to hand over the captain’s baton to the wicketkeeper-batsman.

“For all of us, it was a unanimous decision on Sanju. He has the natural leadership qualities required, understands the Royals way, and is someone we want to build our team around,” he said.

However, Samson will need to get to his top-form to lead the team from the front. After a disappointing show for India in the T20I series against Australia, the Kerala batsman was not at his impressive best in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
As for Shivam Dube, who RR purchased for Rs 4.4 crore, he is expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming IPL. The Mumbai all-rounder, who had a quiet Vijay Hazare Trophy, was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the auction. In 11 matches of IPL 2020, Dube scored only 129 runs and bagged four wickets. His return to top form will be crucial for RR.
