IPL 2021: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) once again failed to break their jinx against Mumbai Indians last night, giving up the match from a fairly comfortable position.

KKR blew away a chance to win against the Rohit Sharma-led side after failing to chase 152 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, losing the match by 10 runs. After the loss, the franchise’s co-owner Shahrukh Khan in a tweet apologised to the fans for a ‘disappointing’ show.

Not only that, KKR captain Eoin Morgan and cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Nitish Rana were left ‘gutted’ after KKR lost their IPL 2021 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) after suffering a dramatic collapse towards the latter part of the encounter.

“Gutted. It was a tough night for Knights, will comeback stronger,” tweeted Nitish Rana, who was the top-scorer of the match but ended up on the losing side.

KKR looked in firm control of the 153-run chase till the time opener Nitish Rana was at the crease but the last ball of the 15th over changed everything. Rana, who was batting on 57, was beaten all ends up by a Rahul Chahar googly and was stumped. That started KKR’s slump.

KKR vs MI, IPL 2021: We are going to learn from it, says Russell after defeat against Mumbai Indians

“Yeah, I support that (Shah Rukh Khan) tweet but at the end of the day the game of cricket… you are not sure until it’s over. I think we are still confident, we still played some good cricket and I am proud of the boys. You know, we are definitely disappointed but it’s not the end of the road, it’s only the second game and we are going to learn from it,” Russell said in the virtual post-match press conference.

“I just think it’s a game of cricket. I have played hundreds of T20 games and I have seen games where teams cruise in on the driver’s seat and then suddenly lose a few wickets, new batters come in and struggle to get away and that’s what happened tonight,” the all rounder added.
