The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, in an emergency meeting unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect.
“These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times,” the BCCI said in an official statement.
Players from South Africa, the Caribbean and England have left India while Aussies will stay in the Maldives till May 15 as flights have been barred from India due to a new variant of COVID-19. Meanwhile, few New Zealand players will stay in India till May 10 before leaving for the UK for the test series against England and WTC Final against India.
It is notable that England players will undergo a 10-day quarantine at a government facility before reuniting with family. SA players, on the other hand, will undergo a 14-day quarantine.
