IPL 2021 – Title Sponsor VIVO: The Indian Premier League (IPL) title sponsor VIVO spent almost 1133 Crores on advertising in FY20. The 70% of those monies went into two sports sponsorship i.e IPL & Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). According to financial data accessed by business intelligence platform Tofler VIVO’s advertising budgets in the year decreased by 11.72% vis a vis FY19.

IPL 2021 Title Sponsor spent 1133.71 Cr on advertising: It is worth noting that VIVO shells out 440 Cr annually for IPL Sponsorship & 60 Cr for the title sponsorship of PKL. According to industry estimates other than these pledged amounts VIVO spends another 250 Cr to activate these sponsorships. This means almost 750 Cr of VIVO’s advertising budgets goes into sports activations and sponsorships.

According to Tofler, Vivo’s net loss widened to Rs 348.94 crore compared to Rs 18.94 crore in the previous fiscal. During the period under review, the company has recorded an increase in sales as compared to the sales of the financial year 2018-19. Overall sales increased by 45.68% against the previous year.

IPL 2021: VIVO to re-enter as IPL Title Sponsor
As reported earlier by InsideSport.co, VIVO tried its best to exit IPL Title sponsorship contract by selling the same to third parties. But the offers by interested parties like Dream11 & Unacademy were far below their expectations and that led to VIVO continuing its stint with IPL 2021.

In an interview with PTI, Nipun Marya, Director-Brand Strategy, VIVO finally confirmed few days back that they will stay put with IPL.

“Vivo is back as the title sponsor of IPL and that is very encouraging and exciting for us because IPL is the biggest property in India and is a perfect amalgamation of sports and entertainment, so we are looking forward to the 9th of April, when IPL begins.”

Now the big question is will VIVO activate themselves with same gusto as they have done in past on IPL?

In past VIVO always buys ON-AIR Sponsorship packages with Star Sports and launch new brands around IPL. They also activate themselves on the ground – create various dealer led activations – none of this is confirmed for now according to sources.

IPL 2021 – Star Sports Sign more sponsors: In the 14th edition the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), Star Sports Network is ready to break all previous IPL revenue records. The brands are queuing up IPL’s official broadcaster door and the list of sponsors is getting longer by the day – but according to the information available with InsideSport.co VIVO is yet to confirm broadcast sponsorship with Star Sports as of now.

Dream11, Byju’s, Phone Pe & Just Dial have signed as Co-Presenting partner of the league with Star Sports. 4 brands namely Bingo, AMFI, Kamla Pasand & Frooti have signed up as Associate Sponsors – but VIVO’s name is missing from the list. It is worth noting that each Co-Presenting Sponsorship deal is being signed in a range of 115-120 Cr and the Associate
Sponsors are coming on board at 55-65 Cr levels.

VIVO up till now hasn’t confirmed any broadcast association on IPL 2021 with Star Sports.
