IPL 2021: The Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) has kickstarted with some thrilling contests and has already witnessed new records being scripted within the completion of just the first round matches.
With 200+ scores to flying sixes all over the park, the batsmen have not given the bowlers much time to settle into the tournament. In this brief period, we have witnessed some matchwinning knocks and raw brute powerhitting. In this article, we take a look at the top 5 batting performances after first round of matches.
Sanju Samson (119 vs PBKS)
Sanju Samson played a valiant knock of 119 on his captaincy debut but it went in vain as Rajasthan Royals succumbed to Punjab Kings in a last over thriller, losing the contest narrowly by 4 runs.
However, the innings saw Samson script a couple of new records. Samson’s score was the highest-ever by a Rajasthan batsman and the highest by a batsman on captaincy debut in IPL history. He is also the second Indian after Virat Kohli to score more than 2 hundreds in the competition.
KL Rahul (91 vs RR)
Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul punished the Rajasthan bowlers in their IPL 2021 opening tie, slamming a 50-balls 91. Rahul looked to continue his sublime form in the previous edition where he scored 670 runs in 14 matches and finished as the top scorer.
Rahul’s 91 helped Punjab to a staggering score of 221/6 in 20 overs as they beat Rajasthan Royals in a last-over thriller and start their campaign on a winning note.
Shikhar Dhawan (85 vs CSK)
Shikhar Dhawan played a stellar knock of 54-balls 85 and finished as the Man of the Match as DC beat CSK by 7 wickets in their IPL 2021 season opener. In the process, the left-hander achieved multiple individual feats.
- Shikhar Dhawan became the first batsman in IPL history to hit 600 fours.
- Dhawan is now the highest runs scorer against CSK. He surpassed Kohli’s total of 901 during his match-winning innings. He has 910 against CSK
- Shikhar Dhawan went past Warner to become the third-highest run-scorer in IPL history
Nitish Rana (80 vs SRH)
Nitish Rana went blazing guns in Kolkata Knight Rider’s opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, April 11.
His quickfire partnership of 93 runs off just 50 balls with Rahul Tripathi (53 off 29) took KKR to 146/2 after just 15.2 overs. Rana almost came close to a KKR record of being the first centurion for the Kolkata-based team since Brendon McCullum’s 158 not out against RCB in the 2008 IPL opener.
Rana departed after scoring a brilliant 80 off 56 on Sunday after Mohammad Nabi’s length delivery tricked him into sending an easy catch to long-off.
