IPL 2021: Virender Sehwag’s big statement on KKR, says “Watching them is like watching a boring movie”- Eoin Morgan’s Kolkata Knight Riders are being heavily criticised by many cricket experts for their below-par performance in the ongoing IPL 2021. KKR is ranked sixth on the points table with just two wins in seven games so far. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag slammed the KKR team management for not making any changes in the plan even after the failure.
“I am not happy with Kolkata Knight Riders’ batting order because Nitish Rana is still opening. They are not getting the starts they need to get. Shubman Gill is not in the best of forms — he scored 40 against Delhi Capitals, but he used a lot of balls. But even if that is fine if he is batting along with someone who can keep increasing the team’s run rate, then it would be better for KKR,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Sehwag, who was one of the most destructive batsmen of his times, feels that KKR should make most of the power play and in their current top order not even a single batsman is playing explosive innings.
Sehwag also went on to compare KKR to a boring movie as they have not learned from their mistakes. “It is not digestible that they are not changing batting order. When I watch a movie on my laptop, mobile on any OTT platform, I skip forward a boring scene. In this T20 tournament, when Kolkata Knight Riders are playing, it will get boring for me, so I have to watch it while fast-forwarding it because they have made things boring for everyone,” he said.
Not even a single batsman from the KKR top-order has an average above 30 in IPL 2021. Nitish Rana is averaging around 28, Gill is going through a bad patch with an average of 18 and Morgan has certainly failed to lead from the front with an average of 15.33.
Interestingly, KKR’s fast-bowling all-rounder Pat Cummins (31.00) has a better average.
“They are making the same mistakes in every match. Even when they were chasing, they made the same mistakes. They were lucky Morgan scored runs against Punjab Kings so they won one match. But they had made the same mistakes. If you keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again, then I don’t think the team management of Kolkata are taking the right decision,” he concluded.
KKR will next face Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 3. Both the teams will be coming into this game after facing a defeat in the last one.
