IPL 2021: World No 1 T20I batsman Malan fails on debut, manages only 26 off 26- After a long wait of six matches, Dawid Malan finally made his IPL debut against Delhi Capitals. Unfortunately, it didn’t unfold the way that he would have wanted to. The left-handed batsman, who is ranked No.1 in ICC T20I Rankings, could manage just 26 runs off 26 balls at a strike rate of just 100. The poor scoring rate at which he played in absence of Punjab Kings regular skipper KL Rahul is likely to create trouble for Mayank Agarwal’s side later in the match.
It is to be noted that Dawid Malan was almost dismissed for just runs 10 runs off just 10 balls but he survived an umpire’s call earlier on during his innings. The likes of Axar Patel and Kagiso Rabada gave nothing in offer for Malan to open his arms. He walked in to bat when Punjab Kings were struggling at 35/2 and then shared a slow partnership with Mayank Agarwal. The 42 runs partnership was scored in 47 balls which was even lower than the scoring rate of even 100.

One of the main takeaways was that Malan kept on scoring at a slow rate even when Mayank Agarwal was struggling to hit boundaries on the other end. The situation demanded someone to step up and raise the pace at which they were scoring. Later, he perished after getting bowled out to Axar Patel.
