IPL Auction 2021: 3 teams who can pick T20 sensation Dawid Malan in IPL auction; One of the most prolific batsmen in the shortest format, Dawid Malan can be a sought after name in the upcoming IPL 2021 auction.
Malan is currently the no.1 ranked T20I batsman in the ICC rankings and presents a solid case for himself ahead of the IPL 2021 auction on February 18 in Chennai.
The left-handed batsman from England so far has played 19 T20Is and scored 855 runs. His batting average is 53.44 and a strike-rate that stands at 150. In the 19 innings which he has played for England in T20Is, he has managed to score 50 or more in ten of them, which includes a hundred against New Zealand and an unbeaten 99 against South Africa.
Let’s have a look at three teams that can pick Dawid Malan in IPL 2021 auction:
Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders is one team which lacks an overseas top-order batsman. With Sunil Narine not guaranteed to open in the upcoming season, Knight Riders might feel that Dawid Malan’s addition to their side can benefit them in a lot of ways. With Shubman Gill at the top, KKR might consider having a right-left combination at the top just for a tactical advantage.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore have always been notorious when it comes to releasing players. They surprised several fans when Aaron Finch was let go ahead in the IPL 2021 auction. With Finch gone, Virat Kohli and his franchise would want to have an experienced overseas batsman at the top. Devdutt Paddikal who had a great season in 2020, is almost a certain starter in the upcoming edition. For him, having an experienced opening partner at the other end would be a great advantage.
Steve Smith’s departure from the side has left a huge void to fill in. As a captain, they have resorted to Sanju Samson, however, they still need a top-notch overseas batsman.
Dawid Malan could just be the perfect pick for Rajasthan. He can open the batting for Rajasthan, come at no.3 or move to no.4 if required. He would give them flexibility in the top order batting, something which they lacked in the previous season. On top of that, they have also traded Robbie Uthappa, an opening slot that can be cashed in by Malan easily.
