Sehwag’s role expands at KXIP, to head cricket operations

Former India opening batsman Virender Sehwag will head cricket operations and strategy for IPL team KXIP for the 2017 season.

“With Viru’s vast knowledge and expertise, it is a matter of great pride for Kings XI Punjab to have him mentor the squad this season. We are absolutely confident that his experience and ability will add great value to the franchise and wish him the best in his new role”, a statement from the franchise said.

It will be his third year of association with the team. He was the mentor of the team during the 2016 season and will continue to perform that role along with being the brand ambassador of the team. He had worked closely with the team’s head coach Sanjay Bangar.

“It is such an honor to lead this team and mentor our young talent. Kings XI Punjab is a team very close to my heart and I am looking forward to a great season with them”, the swashbuckling opener said. After retiring from all forms of cricket in 2015 he has been the mentor for KXIP.

The tenth edition of IPL is scheduled to begin from April 3 and conclude in the third week of May. KXIP have never won the title in the first nine years and Viru will be hoping to do a perfect ten for the team this year.
