The Indian Premier League (IPL) finale between Chennai Super Kings and Sun Risers Hyderabad has registered a steep upsurge in television viewership.
The viewers tuned into Star Sports 1 Hindi in big numbers as the Grand Finale has scored 55.6 million impressions, according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council date for the Indian Premier League. The numbers are 41% higher than the IPL Season 10 final gross audience on Sony Pictures India Network channels. The IPL 10 final between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Stars had garnered 39.4 million impressions.
IPL Season 11 has in total registered 1.4 billion Impressions, which is a 15% increase over the gross 1.2 billion impressions for IPL 2017.
Regional feeds witnessed a growth during IPL 11. The Hindi language live broadcast on Star Sports 1 Hindi and Star Sports 1 Hindi HD has contributed 54% of viewership, followed by the English feed on Star Sport 1 and Star Sports 1 HD at 24%. The regional push accounted for a 22% of the total IPL viewership this year.
Star India has broadcast the IPL Season XI in six languages, while the Grand Finale was broadcast live in eight languages across Star Sports 1 (SD+HD), Star Sports 1 Hindi (SD+HD), Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports Select 1 (SD+ HD), Star Suvarna Plus, Star Maa Movies, DD Sports, and Jalsha Movies.
The final match was also aired on Asianet Movies, Star Plus (SD+HD), Star Gold (SD+HD), and Star Pravah.
In comparison, the IPL 10 was aired on Sony Max, Sony Six (SD+HD), Sony ESPN (SD+HD) with only the Hindi and English live feeds.
Star Sports 1 Hindi with 25,18,17,000 impressions for week 22 has recorded almost 300% surge over the past few weeks. The IPL English feed on Star Sports 1 also registered a similar gain in numbers to end the week as the second most watched sports genre channel with 10,35,72,000 gross impressions.
The grand finale between the champions Chennai Super Kings and the challengers SunRisers Hyderabad has accounted for the 2,02,81,000 impressions on Star Sports 1 Hindi as the No. 1 sports genre show for the week. The mid-innings and post-match wrap up Kent Cricket Live shows are the second and third most watched sports genre shows for the week with 1,25,54,000 and 83,19,000 impressions respectively. The English language live broadcast and the Kent RO mid-innings show on Star Sports come next in that order to figure among the top five sports genre shows for the week.
