Vivo IPL 2018 continues to enthrall fans with record numbers on both viewership and engagement across screens. Television Viewership shows strong growth as measured across audiences – Urban + Rural at 13% and Urban audiences demonstrating enhanced viewership growth at 24%.
Overall viewership of the tournament across all platforms TV (In-Home & Out-of-Home) and Digital in Urban Audiences up to week 5 was 40% higher than the comparable number of matches last year. Within this TV urban viewership is 611 million impressions +24% growth vs year ago and digital impressions at 97 million impressions is 2.5x vs year ago, Star Sports has stated in a media release.
The tournament has reached 556 million across screens across India so far already surpassing last year’s reach for the whole tournament. This is the ﬁrst time that the “Total Audience Viewership” is measured across all screens. This includes capturing consumption across TV screens in home, out-of-home and digital – giving a uniﬁed, holistic view.
However, the Broadcast Audience Council Research data indicates a mid-season slump in IPL TV ratings. The ratings have registered a decline over the previous week numbers. Star Sports 1 Hindi continues to be the most watched sports genre channel on the strength of the IPL live broadcast with the Hindi commentary. The channel in week 19 (Saturday, 5th May 2018 to Friday, 11th May 2018) has registered 898,849,000 impressions as against 966,811,000 impressions in the previous week.
The top five spots genre channel in that order are SS 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 (300,075,000 impressions), Star Sports First (back in the No 3 position with 93,979,000 impressions), Sony Ten 1 (78,270 impressions) and Star Sports Select HD (46,839,000 impressions).
All the top five sports genre shows are the live broadcast of the IPL games on Star Sports 1 Hindi. The Mumbai Indians-Kolkata Knight Riders match on Sunday, June 6, tops the billing with 14,653,000 impressions. The numbers though are marginally lower than the No. 5 show in the previous week, which have registered 14,661,000 impressions as per BARC charts.
