The Indian Premier League Season 12 activities will formally start on Thursday (November 15) with the release of the final list of retained players. The next on the cards will be the player auction in December to complete the line-ups for the real action, slated for an early start in March.
In India or abroad? Election dates will determine. If abroad, South Africa will be the first choice. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is taking stock of the situation.
The eight IPL teams have the option to release or retain their players. The exercise has to be completed over the next two days for the final list to be released on
The franchisees then prepare their strategies for going to the auction table next month to complete their squads for the season ahead.
As the trading window for the Season is open now, Delhi Daredevils have confirmed getting Shikhar Dhawan home in an exchange for several players with the IPL Hyderabad franchisee. Quinton De Kock has been picked by Mumbai Indians.
The franchisees this year will have a maximum ₹ 82 crore to spend on their players, an increase of ₹ 2 crore over the previous year’s purse. As of now, not taking the prospective transfers into consideration, reigning champions Chennai Super Kings have the maximum of ₹ 8.5 crore in their kitty, while Sunrisers Hyderabad have a mere ₹ 90 lakh. Kings XI Punjab may spend up to ₹ 6.8 crore, Delhi ₹ 5.35 crore. Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore are at the bottom with just ₹ 15 lakh.
However, the equation is likely to go through major changes as the franchisees head for the auction next month.
