Parthiv Patel has a unique, and bizarre, record in his IPL career. He has played for six teams in the nine editions of Indian Premier League (IPL), including four teams which are no more a part of the league.
Patel is currently playing for Mumbai Indians, which is one of the IPL teams which have been around since the inaugural year. He has earlier played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Deccan Chargers (DC), Kochi Tuskers, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past.
But he is not the only player who has played for six teams. While Patel is not in the auction pool, there are some players who are hoping to find a team which wants to cash in on their talent despite having represented several teams in the past.
Sri Lankan allrounder Thissara Perera has also played for six teams – CSK, Kochi Tuskers, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Supergiants. Perera, with a reserve price of Rs 50 lakh, is hoping to be picked up by one of the teams during the IPL 2017 auction.
Former India star Irfan Pathan has enjoyed playing with five teams in the nine editions of IPL. Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad, CSK and Rising Pune Supergiants – have all tried to fit his skills into their strategy, each with varying degrees of success. With a minimum price tag of Rs 50 lakh, will another team try him out? As the auction unfolds on Monday, the story will pan out.
Pathan’s former opening bowling partner Ishant Sharma, with a Rs 2 crore auction price, is hoping that his performance with his four earlier teams will count. Hopefully, it can fetch more than the reserve price. His teams – Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rising Pune Supergiants – could still want him to be a part of their plans.
Former India opening bowlers Rudra Pratap Singh has also played for five teams – RCB, RPS, DC, Kochi Tuskers and Mumbai Indians. For IPL10, his reserve price has been set at Rs 30 lakh. Once a key member of the Indian team with his seam bowling . He is struggling to rekindle his form with the ball. His fitness has been an issue largely due to his weight problem.
New Zealand hard hitting batsman Ross Taylor has played for four teams – RCB, RR, Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Pune Warriors. He is part of the auction pool and has a reserve price of Rs 50 lakh. The Kiwi is known for his hard- hitting skills but in the last few seasons his form has dipped much to the agony of his franchise teams.
Leg spinner Rahul Sharma has donned the shirt of four teams, Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors, DD and CSK. Without a stellar record, with his Rs 30 lakh price tag it will be interesting to watch if his earlier teams also want him back.
Saurabh Tiwary’s IPL career has seen the jerseys of Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, RCB and Rising Pune Supergiants. With a Rs 30 lakh reserve price, he is again part of the auction pool.
Five IPL teams which have downed shutters include Pune Warriors India , Kochi Tuskers, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings and DC.
