Kapil Dev seems to be warming up to play his next innings on a political pitch.
The 1983 ICC World Cup champion, Kapil Dev is heading for his next innings in the field of politics. The all-rounder may open his political innings with a Rajya Sabha seat this Monsoon Session.
Kapil Dev’s name reportedly figures in the 10 odd BJP list for the Rajya Sabha nominations. The BJP is expected to name its Rajyasabha nominations ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament. The session is scheduled between July 18 and August.
There has been rife ever since BJP president Amit Shah had called on Kapil Dev on June 1 as part of the party’s “contact for support” drive.
The party hopes to select these members before the monsoon session of parliament that commences on July 18 and goes on till August 10. The session is critical, as it will see the first test of opposition unity before the 2019 general elections.
Reports suggest that the Bollywood Diva Madhuri Dixit may also be nominated to the Rajya Sabha along with Kapil Dev.
Sachin Tendulkar has been the latest representative of Indian sportspersons in the Upper House of the Indian Parliament. As a Parliamentarian, Sachin has done a remarkable job for the two villages – Donja village in Osmanabad district of Marathwada and Puttamrajuvari Kandrika village in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. Tendulkar had adopted the village under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.
However, he also had his share of criticism for abstaining from the Parliamentary proceedings.
