Italian Open 2021 Final: Rafael Nadal defeats Novak Djokovic to complete La Decima in Rome- Spanish Tennis legend and World No.2 Rafael Nadal has defeated Novak Djokovic in the finals of the Italian Open. He emerged victorious over World No. 1 and defending champion by 7-5, 1-6 and 6-3.

The two Tennis giants produced their best in the opening set which Nadal won towards the end, but Djokovic fought back hard to earn a victory in the second set in a handsome manner. But, Nadal held his nerve and bounced back to clinch the title.

“It’s amazing. To have this trophy in my hands for the 10th time, it’s just something impossible to imagine ,” the 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2018, 2019 and 2021 Rome champion said.

“I’m super happy. I can’t thank my team enough, and life for all these opportunities, and everybody’s support has been huge during all these years. So to have the trophy on this day, this year, it’s just amazing,” the 20-time grand slam champion added.

Nadal has won 101 straight matches on clay after winning the first set. It was his 459th win in 501 matches in the clay court.

The two Tennis Pro faced each other for the 57th time. They had last played against each other in French Open 2020 final where Nadal had won in straight sets.

Together the duo have now won 15 titles with Nadal winning 10 titles. Five times champion Novak Djokovic leads the head-to-head battle 29-28.

As per a report, Rome is now the fourth separate event that Nadal has won 10 or more times, having previously conquered Monte Carlo 11 times, Barcelona 12 times and Roland Garros an incredible 13 times.

Nadal will now target a 14th French Open crown when the claycourt Grand Slam begins on May 30.
