TNPL franchisee Trichy Warriors have signed up former South African batsman Jonty Rhodes as mentor and ambassador.

Rhodes, who has represented South Africa in 52 Tests and 245 one-day internationals, will join the team on August 7. Ruby Trichy Warriors is led by Tamil Nadu batsman B Indrajith and coached by former India fast bowler Tinu Yohannan.

The franchisee has revealed the signing in a Press release: “It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s @JontyRhodes8! ???? Welcoming our mentor & brand ambassador for @TNPremierLeague 2.0! #DoubleTheGethu,” the franchisee has said.

“The mere presence of a legend like Rhodes can motivate the players. I am excited to welcome him on the team,” coach Yohannan said. “It will be a privilege to have him in our midst. His presence in the dressing room and during the practice sessions can be invaluable. He can pass on a lot of knowledge to the young players.”

Rhodes will stay with the team for one month. He is set to join the team in Dindigul on Monday.

There are more international cricketers joining TNPL as mentors, say reports.
