Virat Kohli Foundation and RPSG Group have come together for a second time in a fortnight for benevolence of sports. Kohli and Sanjiv Goenka of the RPSG group have now joined hands for a charity golf tournament.
This is the second joint initiative by Kohli foundation and the Goenka group for sports development.
Earlier this month, on September 8 to be precise, Kohli and Goenka had launched a scholarship programme for individuals who have undertaken exceptional initiatives to promote sports at the grassroots level.
Now, the two collaborate to co-promote an annual golf event. The RP-SG Invitational Celebrity Golf will feature top corporate and celebrity golfers. For the corporates it will be like a pay-and-play opportunity as the invited corporates will have to buy slots for participating in the event, according to a Business Standard report.
The nine corporates will compete alongside nine celebrity golfers to form teams. The corporates will have the option to pick the celebrity they want to play with. Star Sports is the broadcast partner.
The event is a lead-up to the RPSG Indian Sports Honours, conceptualised to engage corporates from across the country. All proceeds from the event will go toward the Virat Kohli Foundation to support promising junior sportspersons.
The event has been conceptualised by Cornerstone Sport, the celebrity managers who also handle Kohli’s interests.
“The objective is to create an opportunity for like-minded corporates to come together for the betterment of sport in the country. Golf is a great platform to achieve this. Most CEO’s and decision makers within the corporate fraternity play golf recreationally and this was a chance to bring them together to work towards a common challenge,” explains Anirudha Thammanna, GM, intellectual properties at Cornerstone.
