The Sydney Cricket Ground authorities have honoured skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri with the life membership of the SCG.

The special honour came on Thursday as India prepared for their one-day series opener.

The Sydney Cricket Ground authorities have shared the news on the official SGC twitter handle @scg. “Indian coach Ravi Shastri & captain @imVkohli have today accepted honorary membership to the SCG for their contribution to the sport of cricket and the ground’s history.  Together, they helped India to the team’s first-ever series win on Australian soil ,” reads the tweet.

“A world first victory deserves something special!,” SGC has responded to a question on special consideration for the Indian duo.

India will start their three-match ODI series campaign at the SCG tomorrow (Saturday). Skipper Kohli has some no so pleasant memories to erase with his willow as on his previous four outings in Blue flannels his best so far has been just 21.

However the significance of Tests at the SCG has a little more than the everlasting memories of the maiden Test series win for an Asian side in Australia. Shastri on the 1992 tour of Australia had scored a double century at the SCG while during India’s last tour Down Under Kohli has played a century-plus knock on way to the major transformation in his career.
