Virat Kohli, India’s biggest brand icon, has become the highest followed Indian on Instagram, surpassing actress Priyanka Chopra. The team India captain has also now become the first Indian to have over 50 million followers on the video sharing, social media platform.
He also remains sports word’s only representative in the list of top 10 most followed Indian celebrities on Instagram. Kohli’s wife Anushka is the ninth most followed Indian celebrity on Instagram with 32.6 million followers.
Kohli expressed gratitude to millions of his fans in a video post on Instagram. “We have reached 50 million. It is quite surreal to know how many people love and support me. They admire what I do. I am feeling very grateful and very thankful. God has been kind,” said Kohli and added “Thanks for all your support and love for so many years. I really, really appreciate”.

The Bollywood and Hollywood actress Priyanka is not far behind from Kohli with 49.9 million followers with another leading Indian cinema lady Deepika Padukone a distant third, having 44.2 million followers.
The top ten list includes seven female cinema celebrities, also including Alia Bhatt (43.1 mn), Shraddha Kapoor (40.5 mn), Jacqueline Fernandez (371. Mn) and Neha Kakkar (38.2 mn). Akshay Kumar (36.6 mn) in the seventh position and Salman Khan (29.8 mn) at the bottom complete the top ten list.
Kohli also figure in the Instagram’s top ten highest valued athletes global list. A single commercial post on the Team India’s captain’s Instagram account is valued at $ 196,000 (₹ 1.41 crore approx.).
Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is Instagram’s most followed celebrity with over 200 million followers. Ronaldo enjoys a commercial value of $ 975,000 (₹ 7 crore approx.) for a single promotional post on his Instagram account.
