Kohli’s ‘top of the top list’ gets another criteria

Earlier this year, Kohli is included in the Forbes Top 100 Athletes for revenues from match fee, bonuses and endorsement deals. He is positioned at 89 spot with total earnings of $22m. He is the only Indian and the lone cricketer on the charts. The magazine also described Kohli as the “Indian cricket phenom” and added that the sports star has “for good reason” already drawn comparisons to all-time great Sachin Tendulkar.

The list doesn’t end here; the captain bold of Indian cricket team is also amongst the ESPN 100 World Fame athletes placed at number 13 whereas the captain cool MS Dhoni is at 15. The other cricketers in the list are Yuvraj and Raina.

Virat is also the part of another Forbes research, conducted by Hookit to measure the conversion value of the sponsored social media posts made by the athletes. Kohli stood at the 8th spot and yet again is the lone cricketer on the charts. His 62 branded posts made 344,929 interactions and made value of about $31.1m for the sponsors.

This can be accredited to the popularity that this batsman has gained over the years. Be it from his batting style or his aggressive approach or his personal life. The player is always into the limelight.

Now, he is also the second-most followed Indian on Facebook with over 35 million followers. Just behind the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has 42.2 million followers to his name. He is also the most famous cricketer around the world with over 14 million followers on Instagram and another 16 million on Twitter. There is no doubt why brands find value with the star player.

The list of Kohli’s presence on various lists itself is an accolade for the Indian skipper.


He is also a part of Wisden’s edition of Cricketers’ Amanack 2017 and is the leading cricketer in the World for 2016. “Virat Kohli, who features on the cover of the 2017 edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, is also the Leading Cricketer in the World for 2016, an accolade put in place in 2003 when Ricky Ponting became the first honouree,” Wisden announced.

He also grabbed the top spot in the latest MRF Tyres ICC ODI Player Rankings. He is also the top player on Lord’s list of Top 20 players. He added himself to the highest century makers this year by surpassing Sanath Jayasuria. He is amongst the highest paid in IPL.
