Kings XI Punjab have announced a change in their Season 11 home schedule as they will play their first three matches at the iconic Mohali stadium and then cap it off with four matches at Indore.
The side was originally slated to play their initial matches at Indore but logistical difficulties forced a change in the calendar.
The KXIP were originally slated to start their Indian Premier League 2018 campaign from Delhi with a tie against Gautam Gambhir-led Delhi Daredevils on April 8. The match has now be shifted to Mohali, with the KXIP set to play hosts to the Daredevils.
The KXIP will next host Chennai Super Kings and Surisers Hyderabad at Mohali on April 15 and 1 respectively before travelling to Indore for their remaining ‘home games’, where they play hosts to Mumbai Indians (May 4), Rajasthan Royals (May 8), Kolkata Knight Riders (May 12) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (May 14).
However, fans from either venue won’t be too disappointed, the team franchisees has stated in a Press release.
Mohali, known to be quite a batting paradise, will get to see big hitters from Kings XI Punjab competing with those from M.S. Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings, David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gautam Gambhir’s Delhi Daredevils. It will be an ideal scenario for KXIP’s strikers like Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch, Yuvraj Singh and others, as well since they will have the ideal conditions to get going.
Indore fans will now get to witness four matches instead of three. Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be clashing with the Kings in Indore.
“It is unfortunate that the dates had to be shuffled so late in the day,” said Kings XI Punjab CEO Satish Menon. “However, external difficulties always have to be worked around. Despite the unforeseen circumstances, we’re excited by the prospect of starting off in Mohali. At the end of the day, both venues are home to us!”
The team has also started an exclusive sign up campaign on www.insider.in where registered users get to buy tickets an hour before they go live.
