Three time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, after three consecutive defeats, made a strong statement after securing a thumping 10 wickets victory against KXIP in Dubai International stadium.
With the win, CSK climbed to the 6th spot after succumbing to the bottom spot following their early horror show. The duo of Du Plessis (87*) and Watson (83*) stitched a record opening stand for CSK across IPL history to chase down 179 runs without the loss of any wickets and with 14 balls to spare.

That’s a wrap from here guys. Thank you for joining us. See you again tomorrow!
CSK wins by 10 wickets

CSK-168/0 after 17 overs; need 11 off 18 balls
CSK-156/0 after 16 overs; need more 23 from 24 balls
Bishnoi continues in the 16th. With the required run rate having come down below 6, the batsmen change their approach a bit, can afford a few dot balls again. 159 is the highest opening partnership in CSK’s history. These two are hurtling towards that mark. A Watson boundary through the covers to end the 16th.
CSK-150/0 after 15 overs
Shane Watson-Faf du Plessis complete 150 runs partnership to propel CSK closer towards the target. The duo has played exceptionally well but can they take CSK all the way over the rope?

CSK-135/0 after 14 overs; need more 44 runs from 36 deliveries
CSK-123/0 after 13 overs; need 56 more from 42 balls
Much better efforts by the KXIP fielders as Watson and du Plessis are restricted to the ones and twos, with just four coming off this one.
CSK-119/0 after 12 overs
CSK-112/0 after 11 overs
Jordan, who went for 19 in his first over, back to bowl his second in the 11th. Watson lays into him again. Finds gaps on either side of the wicket to start the over. Watson brings up his 50, off 31 balls. Faf gets to his 50 in the same over. Off 33 balls. CSK are being powered towards the target by their openers.
Half Century for Faf as well!
Faf brings up his half-century off 33 balls — his 15th in the Indian Premier League overall and his third in this IPL. Takes a single off the fifth delivery of the 11th over to get to the milestone.
What a way for Shane Watson to bring up his 20th IPL fifty, drilling this through the gap between extra cover and mid off! Takes just 31 balls to get to the milestone.
Watson-Faf complete 100 runs stand
100-partnership up between CSK openers Du Plessis and Watson in 59 deliveries, the former bringing up the milestone with a single off the penultimate ball of the 10th over. CSK-101/0 after 10 overs

A boundary in the penultimate can relief KXIP a bit after the dismissal of their skipper KL Rahul. A tennis shot from Maxwell against Bravo’s short and wide delivery.
KXIP-155/4 after 18 overs
CSK needed to get back and contain the KXIP flow of runs and Shardul Thakur does it with two consecutive deliveries. First gets Nicholas Pooran and then the important wicket of KL Rahul. KXIP-155/4 after 18 overs
Sarfaraz Khan on strike. Khan looks to play a cover drive but takes it away from his body, gets an outside edge and it falls on the bounce for Shane Watson who is at short third man. Nearly getting the hat-trick!
Thakur strikes again; Rahul departs for 63
Two in two for Shardul Thakur. KL Rahul gone this time as he shakes his head. Full delivery from Shardul, KL Rahul tried to play it down square but gets an outside edge which is taken by MS Dhoni. 100th catch for MSD.
Wicket No.3 goes for KXIP
Shardul Thakur comes on and strikes immediately and gets the danger man NIcholas Pooran. Goes for another maximum, he gets plenty of air on it, it goes many a miles into the air, but if you need someone to hold on to such a tough catch, you would call on Jadeja. And he holds on. What a show from Pooran though.
150 up for KXIP
Bravo bowls an eventful 17th over. Classic death over bowling. Yorkers and cutters. Pooran gets ahold of the 4th ball, and again pulls and deposits into the empty stands. KXIP-152/2 after 17 overs
Strategic Timeout taken
Sam Curran goes for 11 runs and he’s not happy. No bowler would be after being hit for a 97 metre six! Nicholas Pooran with a massive hit and KXIP have the momentum going into the strategic timeout. KXIP-141/2 after 16 overs
Milestone for KL Rahul
The KXIP skipper cross 1500 IPL runs. Kudos!

Jadeja’s last over of the day is an expensive one. KL Rahul, the new man in to join Rahul, smashes him to end the over – a four over covers and a huge pull for six. KXIP-114/2 after 14 overs
100 comes up for KXIP
Dwayne Bravo sees KXIP’s 100 come up from 12.5 overs as he goes for 7 runs. A boundary in that over coming fortuitously for KL Rahul, much to the players from yellow’s dismay. KXIP-101/2 after 13 overs
Excellent over from Ravindra Jadeja; goes for just 6 runs before getting Mandeep! Disappointed Mandeep walks back to the dugout and Nicholas Pooran comes in. KXIP-94/2 after 12 overs
KXIP lose 2nd wicket
Ambati Rayudu takes a low catch and Mandeep Singh falls! Slightly outside off and Mandeep’s uppish drive finds the CSK fielder inside the circle. Bit of a juggle to hold on and Rayudu is relieved. End of a cameo knock from Mandeep
Massive over for KXIP
Mandeep Singh goes after Piyush Chawla. Two sixes from it, 17 in all, as Mandeep smacks two mighty hits in the same region. Fantastic batting from Mandeep. KXIP-88/1 after 11 overs
We reach the halfway mark
Mandeep Singh is in at 3. Joins KL with CSK’s spinners keeping things tight. No boundaries have been hit for 3 overs now. 10 runs from the last 2 overs with Jadeja and Chawla operating from either end. KXIP-71/1 after 10 overs

End of Powerplay; KXIP-46/0 after 6 overs
KXIP-38/0 after 5 overs
Deepak Chahar continues with his this over and goes for 7 runs. A good comeback from Chahar despite being pumelled for a boundary by Mayank Agarwal.

Dhoni: I think we have played decent cricket. We need to get a good start and we need to get better at the death. It’s easier to break things into smaller stuff. We are playing with the same team, happy with the same combination. The side looks balanced and it looks good. We wanted to bat first, but happy to bat second. We are the most experienced team when it comes to chasing. The morale is high, that’s a good thing. I feel the support staff and the players’ attitude matters, it makes the job easy for us when the dressing room atmosphere is happy.
Rahul: We’ll bat first. Looks a pretty good wicket, hope it gets a little slower too. If we put a big total, it will put some pressure on them. Lots of positives to think of and be proud of. It can all change quickly. We need to get the momentum. We have three changes. Karun, Gowtham, Neesham are out. Mandeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Jordan are in.
Kings XI Punjab have won the toss and have opted to bat.
