La Liga: FC Barcelona vs Deportivo Alaves: Head to head; Probable Playing XI; Match Details; BAR vs ALA Live Streaming details- Eight points behind the league leaders Atletico Madrid, playing an extra game, FC Barcelona’s title hopes in the La Liga are all but dashed.
Barcelona’s inconsistencies and defensive flaws have been exposed and taken advantage of by every club in the league. Adding salt to injury, despite Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann leading the attack, they are not the top attacking unit it once used to be.
But before they take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on February 17, Barcelona will face 16th-place Deportivo Alaves at Nou Camp on Sunday, February 14. It will be a tough match considering Barca are coming off of a 0-2 loss to Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.
With no defensive or attacking reinforcements, Ronald Koeman’s side has been severely depleted and struggling in the league at third place with 43 points from 21 games. Centre-back Gerard Pique and attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho, left-winger Ansu Fati and back-up striker Martin Braithwaite are still nursing their injuries and won’t be available for the Alaves clash. However, French defender Clement Lenglet could be back apart from Miralem Pjanic and right-back Sergino Dest. But with Champions League clash against PSG coming up, Koeman may rest several players.
As for Alaves, they are fighting to survive in La Liga and will have problems of their own. They have been poor in the attack and equally poor in defence, conceding 29 goals in 22 matches so far. They have scored only 19. The Abelardo Fernández will have to win or at least draw to stay afloat in the La Liga.
FC Barcelona (WWWW): Despite the 0-2 loss against Sevilla, Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 11 league games. Led by Messi, Barca have won all their last five matches, scoring 14 goals and conceding five in the process.
Deportivo Alaves (WDLLL): After a six-match winless run, Alaves finally got back to winning in the last match, beating Real Valladolid 1-0 at home. However, against Barcelona at Nou Camp, it will be a tough task.
Alaves, in their last five meetings with Barcelona, have not been able to win a single one. They have lost four of them. However, they will look for inspiration from their 1-1 draw in their last meeting the league earlier this season. But it will be Barca’s match to lose having scored 15 goals in their last five meetings, conceding only twice.
Attack and defence:
Barcelona are known for their attacking prowess with Messi leading the line and Antoine Griezmann by his side. But they have not been a fearsome unit this season. While they have scored the most goals in the league this season, they have been inconsistent and that has cost a lot of points. Defensively, Barca have been struggling for the last three seasons and reinforcements have mostly flopped. Now with an injury crisis, the situation is even more severe.
Alaves have problems in both attack and defence. They have scored only 19 goals in 22 matches this season and have conceded 29.
Barcelona: Messi has led Barca’s attack since 2009 and still remains the club’s top scorer every season. He has been disgruntled with the way he has been treated by the former board but has delivered on the pitch with 16 goals across competitions this season. He is not at his best but still a fearsome player. He is followed by Griezmann with 8 goals in 25 matches.
Alaves: Joselu is Alaves’ top-scorer with five strikes. He is followed by Lucas Perez with four goals and three assists.
GK: Marc-André Ter Stegen; Defenders: Sergino Dest, Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet, Junior Firpo; Midfielders: Miralem Pjanic, Frenkie De Jong, Pedri; Forwards: Trincão/ Osumane Dembele, Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann.
Alavés: GK: Fernando Pacheco; Defenders: Martín Aguirregabiria, Víctor Laguardia, Florian Lejeune, Rubén Duarte; Midfielders: Edgar Méndez, Tomas Pina, Manu García, Luis Rioja; Forward: Lucas Pérez, Joselu.
