Anthony Davis missed Monday’s game with right Achilles tendonosis and Alex Caruso with a sore right hand, and both are listed as questionable for the rematch with OKC. They were sorely missed, particularly on defense, where Matthews picked up some of the slack.
Wesley Matthews started all 77 games he played for the East’s No. 1 seed last year, Milwaukee, and came to the Lakers with the expectation that he’d be a regular part of the rotation, as he would be on basically every other NBA team.
LAL picked things up a bit in the 2nd Q, cutting the deficit to four at the half, even while shooting just 39.1%, and 4 of 18 from 3, last time out.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team with 29 points and 10 assists, Darius Bazley added 21 points with 16 rebounds and three assists while Hamidou Diallo chipped in with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
The Thunder shot just 39 percent from the field and 12 of 38 from the 3-point line as they hung with the red-hot Lakers.
Luguentz Dort scored just seven points on three of 11 shooting, Bazley shot just seven of 21 from the field while Gilgeous-Alexander shot just 10 of 25 from the field.
