15-year-old Lakshya Sen world number one in junior BWF ranking

Lakshya Sen has jumped to number one in the junior single in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.

He beat Chia Hao Lee of Chinese Taipei to attain the top position. In eight tournaments during the season, according to BWF, Lakshya got 16,903 points beating Hao with 16,091 points.

Sen has had a brilliant year on the badminton circuit in 2016, as he won a number of titles. He won the Senior India International Series Badminton Tournament and the All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament. In 2014, he clinched the Wimbledon Under-19 tournament, Swiss Open Junior tournament and the Aros Junior Under-15 cup in Denmark.

Interestingly, he has beaten brother Chirag, earlier ranked number two in the junior circuit.

Lakshya is the third Indian to have earned the top ranking in the junior circuit. Aditya Joshi had achieved the feat in 2014 and Siril Verma followed him in 2016.
