The Catalan outfit hosted Real Sociedad with 20,000 spectators allowed at the Camp Nou. Despite being in small numbers, the crowds not only got to watch their favorite team live but also made sure to express their feelings over the recent turmoil that has been happening at the club.

LaLiga News: Lionel Messi left the clubs last week with the departure well known to hurt a lot of FC Barcelona fans. The supporters who were present in the stadium for the clubs’ first match of the season made sure that their feelings were heard and recognized.
During the 10th minute of the match, many FC Barcelona fans held up Lionel Messi shirts and were heard chanting his name. The Argentine has been donning the iconic shirt number for a long time with Barca supporters having a massive connection with Messi and the number 10 jersey. There were also various banners displaying gratitude towards the forward as FC Barcelona kickstart a new era without the six-time Ballon’dor winner.
LaLiga News: Apart from appreciations for Messi, fans were also heard giving a thunderous round of applause for Gerard Pique. The Spanish defender agreed to a massive pay cut that allowed the club to register the likes of Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia. Following his noble gesture, the 34-year old received a lot of gratitude from the fans when his name was read out before the game.
LaLiga News: Various reports in LaLiga News suggest that Jordi Albais also set to follow Piqes’ footsteps. the left-back is said to be negotiating a salary reduction with the club which could be finalized soon. Just like Pique, Alba also received a few jeers from a small section of fans before kick-off.
Apart from all the positive gestures, Fans had also placed banners against stating harsh words against Joan Laporta and his former FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
