Apart from Messi, the Parisian side has also roped in the likes of Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Achraf Hakimi in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino will have a happy headache while deciding upon his starting 11 next season as he looks to fit in all the five arrivals and form his strongest starting XI. Let’s have a look at how the former Tottenham head coach could field PSG following Messi’s arrival from FC Barcelona.
Gianluigi Donnarumma joined PSG on a free transfer from AC Milan ahead of next season. He heads into the upcoming campaign after being named the best player at the recently concluded Euro 2020.
Currently, amongst the best goalkeepers in world football, he is likely to be the first-choice goalkeeper for PSG next season. The 22-year-old will replace Keylor Navas between the sticks with the Costa Rican likely to feature in cup games.
Former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos moved to Paris in the summer and is expected to strike a partnership with PSG captain Marquinhos at center-back.
The 35-year-old would not start all the matches for the Persian outfit which could see Presnel Kimpembe also feature in quite a few games. Apart from the first choice trio, Kehrer is expected to act as a backup and walk into the squad citing any injury concerns.
One of the most expensive buys of the summer, Achraf Hakimi signed for PSG from Inter Milan and is a sure-shot starter for the French side at right-back. On the opposite flank, Abdou Diallo is likely to be the first-choice option with the Senegalese defender putting in solid performances last year.
Pochettino will likely make heavy rotations in the teams’ midfield, chopping and changing based on the tactics he wishes to deploy against certain oppositions. Marco Verratti is a guaranteed starter with the Italian set to feature in a deep-lying role next season. The other two spots are open for players to compete with Idrissa Gueye, Wijnaldum, and Leandro Paredes vouching for a place in the starting 11.
Former Manchester United star midfielder Ander Herrera is an option available for Pochettino. However, fans should not be surprised to see if Angel Di Maria drops back in the midfield to make space for up-top for his countryman Lionel Messi.
PSG had one of the most lethal attacking lineups in the world right now following the arrival of Lionel Messi. The 34-year-old is set to join Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at the French capital with the trio forming one of the best attacks for any team in the world.
Apart from them, the Ligue 1 giants also have Julian Draxler and Pablo Sarabia at their disposal. The duo is expected to be restricted on squad roles alongside Mauro Icardi this season.
