LPL 2020: 5 players to keep an eye on in inaugural Lanka Premier League

LPL 2020 5 Big Players: Sri Lanka is all set to host the inaugural Lanka Premier League. The T20 league promises to bring back joy, in the lives of people and also be a way to revive the sport by giving youngsters a platform to make it big.

The LPL is set to begin on November 26 featuring some big names like Shahid Afridi and Irfan Pathan. All the matches will be played at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota. It will be a double round-robin tournament between five teams – Kandy Tuskers, Jaffna Stallions, Colombo Kings, Galle Gladiators and Dambulla Hawks – over 20 fixtures prior to the playoffs.

While all the teams looks balanced, there are some key players to keep an eye on. Check out.

  • Irfan Pathan (Kandy Tuskers):

He would be leaving his commentary chair to return to the 22 yards. All the Indian fans would be keen to see him swing the ball and trouble the batsmen with his variations.

  • Shahid Afridi (Galle Gladiators):

In the absence of Lasith Malinga and Chris Gayle – both pulled out – Afridi will be the biggest name on display in the first season. He will be a key figure in the Galle Gladiators outfit, bringing a plethora of experience to the table.

  • Angelo Matthews (Colombo Kings):

A lot will depend on him for Kings’ success. The Lankan veteran would be returning to the game after a long game and it would be interesting to see how he manages to keep up the pace.

  • Carlos Brathwaite (Dambulla Hawks)

A proven match-winner, Brathwaite would be an important player in Hawks’ middle-order. The franchise would hope the former Windies skipper fires and help them win the matches.

  • Shoaib Malik (Jaffna Stallions):

The Pakistani star would play for Jaffna Stallions. The Stallions would hope he brings all his experience to the fore and helps them win matches in the tournament. It would be interesting to see which batting position is given to him.
