The Lok Sabha today congratulated athlete Hima Das on winning gold in the women’s 400m race in the world athletic championship.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said Das had covered 400m in just 51.46 seconds winning gold for India.
“It is worthy to mention that Hima Das is from a village in Assam. She is an inspiration. The House prays for her future success,” Mahajan said, amid thumping of desks by members.
The 18-year old sprinter scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman athlete to win a gold at the world level.
Das hails from Shing village in Assam’s Nagaon district.
