Magic vs Lakers Quarter 4

LAL’s 2nd unit defense really struggled with ORL in the 2nd Q, but they’ve been more intense in this 4th Q, enough to create a 95-89 lead with THT and McLemore handling much of the scoring load.

Markieff Morris hit at least 2 3-pointers in 5 straight games in early April before he turned his ankle at New York and missed a couple of games.

Since he’s returned, Kieff is 0 for 18 from 3, including 0 for 4 tonight, as he tries to regain his rhythm.

Alex Caruso is out for the rest of the game with back spasms. Looked like he may have aggravated the back taking a charge in the first half.

The Lakers tightened things up some defensively in the 3rd Q, giving up 24 points after allowing 40 in the 2nd, but still trail by 1 heading into the 4th Q, at 80-79.

Montrezl Harrell leads LAL with 15 points.

Magic vs Lakers Quarter 3

Kyle Kuzma is 4 for 6 from 3 tonight, but the rest of the Lakers are just 2 for 15.

LAL trail 71-70 with 2:19 left in the 3rd Q after a pair of FT’s from Montrezl Harrell after he grabbed an offensive board on a missed 3.

One of LAL’s worst quarters of late saw a really young Orlando team outscore them 40-22 after they had controlled the 1st Q (28-16).

As such, LAL trail 56-50 at the half.

Magic vs Lakers Quarter 2

Okeke just inbounded the ball to himself. Refs missed it. The play ultimately resulted in a 3-point shooting foul on Kuzma, and Harris hit 3 FT’s to push ORL’s lead to 50-43.

It’s a 31-13 Magic run in this 2nd Q, turning a 16-point LAL lead into a 47-41 deficit.

Magic are 11 for 13 from the field.

Orlando was 3 for 11 in LAL’s paint in the 1st Q, but 5 for 5 to start the 2nd Q, as LAL’s lead is down to 4 at 41-37.

Orlando was 3 for 11 in LAL’s paint in the 1st Q, but 5 for 5 to start the 2nd Q, as LAL’s lead is down to 4 at 41-37.

LAL controlled a young Orlando squad that’s currently playing 5 rookies, holding them to just 6 of 22 from the field (27.3%), including 3 for 11 in LAL’s paint and 2 for 7 from 3.

Lakers lead 28-16, with all 5 starters plus Caruso scoring at least 3 points.

Magic vs Lakers Quarter 1

Good paint defense from Drummond + Davis early. Orlando is 1 for 6 in the lane, as LAL opens a 20-9 lead at the 5:34 mark.

Davis has already hit more jump shots in these first 3 minutes than he did in his first 2 games back. Rhythm appears to be coming quickly.

KCP added his 1st 3, and LAL leads 11-7.

After hitting just 1 of 15 jump shots against Dallas on Saturday, Anthony Davis opens 2 for 2 at Orlando, with LAL taking an early 6-5 lead as things get going.

Magic vs Lakers Starting 5 and Pre-Game Updates

KCP is back in the starting lineup after missing the previous game with a sprained ankle. He hit at least 5 3’s in his 3 previous games.

Frank Vogel said that the current plan is for Anthony Davis to play in all the B2B’s that are coming in May and that LeBron (when he returns) typically likes to play in B2B’s as well, but they’ll make all determinations on a daily basis depending on the specific circumstances.

Vogel said Montrezl Harrell will be back in as the backup center tonight after Marc Gasol got those minutes last game. He’s consistently said that he’ll keep playing all 3 centers (Drummond will continue to start).

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is expected to return to the lineup which is a nice boost for the Lakers who have fallen off the pace lately.

Anthony Davis looked rusty in his return to the lineup, but I expect him to bounce back with a big game here as the Lakers take advantage of a tired Magic team who have lost nine of their last 12 games by double digits.
