Mary Kom enters TV show to inspire young girls

Mary Kom’s life and journey has been a subject of a block buster. Now the veteran boxing ace will herself share screen space, albeit on a television entertainment serial.

The Olympic medallist and world champion boxer will reportedly be seen in television show Kesari Nandan. Not playing any character, but appearing as her true self.

Mary Kom will be seen cheearign and encouraging a trumoiled female character to continue pursuing her dreams. She will be inspiring young girls to achieve their goals by overcoming adversities and challenges.

“The show aims to inspire young girls to take up a sport of their choice and not be bound by gender stereotypes. In my journey to becoming world no 1, I chose to stand up to medieval norms and come out a winner. Similarly, Kesari’s fight is one against set societal pressures that need to be shattered. I’m extremely supportive of such narratives,” Delhi Times has quoted Mary Kom as saying.

In the current storyline, Hanumant (Manav Gohil) is in a lot of debt and is unable to pay it as his crops catch fire. Kesari hears about a freestyle wrestling competition for which the prize money is ₹1 lakh.

Mary Kom, who recently created history by becoming world champion for an unprecedented sixth time, will be seen as the chief guest of the wrestling competition. She will also be seen talking to the villagers about gender equality and how one’s gender shouldn’t be a hindrance in fulfilling their dreams.
