The newly-elected executive body of the Indian Olympic Association has re-appointed Dr. Sandeep Mehta as the Chief Public Relations Officer of the IOA.
The development marks the veteran sports educationist’s return to the national governing body for Olympic sports after three years. Dr. Mehta had quit his honorary post in 2014 shortly after N Ramachandran was elected the IOA president.
Dr. Mehta, a sports education professor with the Delhi University, has been associated with the IOA for nearly two decades. Dr. Mehta’s association with the IOA has started in 1998 as he would courteously support the association for public relations duties. He was officially designated the CPRO two years later by the then IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi.
Thereafter, Dr. Mehra has successfully handled the IOA PR for nearly a decade and a half, before putting in his papers. During this stint, he has been in charge of the IOA’s PR portfolio for various key events like the Athens, Beijing and London Olympics and the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Meanwhile, the IOA President Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra and the secretary-general will also be the only official spokespersons for the IOA.
