MI vs RCB Live: Atul Wassan predicts, ‘expecting RCB’s upset win tonight, Maxwell will shine’: Former India player Atul Wassan will not be really surprised if Virat Kohli’s Royal Challenger’s Bangalore upsets pre-tournament favourites Mumbai Indians in the lung opener in Chennai’s Chidambaram Stadium on Friday night. Reason? They now have Australian maverick Glenn Maxwell who can “turn the tables” in a flash.
“I won’t be surprised if Glenn just changes all equations tonight. Forget past records and who has more weight on papers. It’s a 20 overs game and for someone like Glenn, it’s just a matter of 4-5 overs. He can single-handedly take the game away from you in a whisker. I have a feeling that Maxwell is going to click for RCB and he is going to be the trump card for them. They badly need someone to play match-winning innings after Virat Kohli. In fact, both of them can play even more freely not worrying about the lower middle and tail,” Atul Wassan told Insidesport.co in an exclusive chat hours before Friday’s opening match.
MI vs RCB Live: Atul Wassan predicts, ‘expecting RCB’s upset win tonight, Maxwell will shine’: Wassan observed that on papers Mumbai Indians was the strongest team, “but you don’t play cricket on papers, do you? You play on the ground and you have to play well on that particular day. In 20/20 you need big hitters and in international cricket, no one is a bigger hitter than Maxwell. Though I still think it’s a 50/50 game for MI & RCB. But I have a gut feeling that RCB is going to cause a stir in the competition by winning the opening match. I am expecting a very keenly contested match tonight and this will be an interesting IPL tournament.”
Earlier, Virat Kohli’s coach Rajkumar Sharma in a candid interview to Insidepsort.co had admitted that India’s most successful captain never got the team that could have won an IPL title and Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians is a better team than the RCB. He said:
“Mumbai Indians are undoubtedly the best IPL team both on papers and performance-wise as well. They will undoubtedly start as favourites against RCB as they are a better side, plain and simple. To be honest, Virat never had the team or got the team that could have won an IPL title despite being the highest scorer in IPL history. As far as his own performance is concerned he has been one of the best IPL batsmen to date scoring the most number of runs. But if you see his team, since the beginning he did not get the right balance. Yes, he got players like AB De Villiers, Chris Gayle and Dale Steyn but somehow the right balance was not struck. I feel bowling wise, they always remained a weaker side. Now, with Glenn coming in, it looks a little better as he is a match-winner that the team needs after Kohli and De Villiers.”
Virat’s childhood coach said he was not worried that Virat has not won an IPL title but he would love to see him lift the title. “Virat knows it will come one day. But I hope and wish he gets the team required to do the job. You never know, this could well be the year for Virat and Glenn just be the lucky charm for him,” Rajkumar Sharma observed.
