A biopic on Mithali Raj is on the cards. The lead to play the most successful and most prolific women cricketer has reportedly been finalised.
Taapsee Pannu, who played a hockey player in the Sandeep Singh biopic Soorma, will reportedly pad up as onscreen Mithali. The Delhi girl is also playing an octogenarian shooter in yet another sports biopioc Saand Ki Aankh (Bull’s eye).
The script for the Mithali Raj biopic that was announced almost two years back is being finalised. Newspaper Mumbai Mirror has reported that Taapsee and film producers in principle have agreed to work together. However, she will only sign on the dotted lines once the script is in place.
“The script is not in place so it’s too early to talk about it. Right now, they are collecting material and the script has not been written yet. If they offer me, I will be very happy. I really want to do a sports biopic.”
Mithali is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only woman cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in ODIs.
“The film is expected to roll next year and Taapsee will undergo rigorous training in cricket as part of her prep,” a source is reported as saying. “The formalities will be done once the studio has a director on board. They have also locked the story but the script is still being developed.”
In one of her latest Instagram posts, Taapsee has stated “Been a proud part of one, yesterday saw the second one and now kick-starting the third one.” Taapsee is known for doing intense roles. Talking about them, she recently said that such roles took a toll on her mind and change her mental fabric a little bit.
“I really had to psyche myself out to understand the character who has gone through a dark incident and how her body and mind reacts after one year. She is traumatised. It was quite exhausting emotionally and playing such roles surely takes a toll on me,” she was quoted in IANS.
