MMA News: One Championship to resume fights closed door on July 31st

Singapore-based mixed martial arts promoter One Championship will resume its flagship event schedule behind closed doors on July 31 in Bangkok.

Chatri Sityodtong, the One Championship chief executive and founder, announced the update on social media saying the event will be held at a closed-door, audience-free venue and will be broadcast live globally.

One Championship had scheduled four events to be held without fans in Singapore and the Philippines during April and May, but these were cancelled due to the strict ongoing Covid-19 prevention measures in both countries.

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our superstar team at One Championship for everything,” Sityodtong wrote in his Facebook post.

After being unable to stage fight cards for almost four months because of the Covid-19 pandemic, One Championship recently cut its staff by 20%

Sityodtong also announced One will be holding 12 extra fights on that day for the newly-launched One Dark Series, a taped first-air product for their global broadcast partners.

The news that One’s flagship event schedule will resume comes a week after the promotion tested the waters with One Hero Series 13 and 14 in Shanghai, China.

India’s Ritu Phogat also fights in the One Championship. As the action resumes, the next fight for wrestler turned MMA fighter Phogat will be announced.
