Kings XI Punjab will continue to have the Punjab Cricket Association ground at Mohali as their principal home venue for the Indian Premier League games.
The IPL franchisee had raised issues regarding security arrangements and poor crowd turn out for the matches. The security concerns have been addressed by the State Government and the PCA. The development has persuaded the KXIP to continue with Mohali as their principal home ground for the eleventh successive year.
“We wanted to shift our base from Mohali but the main issue regarding the security has been resolved between the government and the Punjab Cricket Association. We are happy to play in Mohali as there is different energy there,” Indian Express has quoted KXIP CEO Satish Menon as saying.
Apart from Mohali, Indore will be the second venue for KXIP and will host the remaining three league IPL matches.
“We will be playing four games in Mohali and the remaining three in Indore. It has been a good venue for us, and the response has been great as we have seen packed houses last year,” Menon is quoted as saying.
The IPL Punjab franchise had made a formal request to the BCCI to shift their home venue out of Punjab. KXIP had raised the issue of trouble with the local authorities and inadequate support from the State Cricket Body.
KXIP in the 2018 IPL player retention round on Friday, has only retained all-rounder Axar Patel for ₹ 7.5 crores. This indicates that the Punjab franchisee is looking to revamp the squad.
