Indian Premier League chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed that the 2020 edition of the tournament will be played between September 19 and November 8.
Dhoni was set to make a comeback to cricket in the IPL – which was initially set to take place in March and CSK had already started their training camp – but things came to a halt due to the pandemic and the tournament was postponed indefinitely.
An official announcement will be made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) soon. The IPL Governing Council will meet within a week to discuss the next steps, subject to government approval for hosting the tournament in the UAE.
While the IPL kicked-off in 2008 as one of the sport’s latest experiments to generate more interest for the sport, the T20 league has become a household entity, gaining a lot of popularity over the years.
Fans have not got to see the former India skipper play a cricket match since India’s World Cup exit last year.
