MS Dhoni in IPL 2020: Dhoni’s IPL report card as CSK end their season with win; Check out

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended their IPL 2020 on a positive note after beating Kings XI Punjab by nine wickets. It was their third straight win. However, it was a difficult season for the three-time champion and their skipper MS Dhoni.

The fact that CSK will not be playing the playoffs for the first time in IPL history sums up their IPL 2020 season. As for Dhoni, he had the worst campaign since the inception of IPL in 2008. To put it into perspective, Dhoni scored just 200 runs in 14 games at an average of 25 — lowest in an IPL season.

Dhoni had repeatedly admitted that he had struggled to adapt to UAE’s condition. And the image of him putting his hands on his knees, had given a glimpse that age is finally catching up to him.

Dhoni’s report card:

– 200 runs – his lowest in an IPL season

– 7 sixes – his fewest in an IPL season

– 50s – first time without a 50 in an IPL season

– 25.00 ave – his lowest in an IPL season

– 116.27 – his 2nd lowest SR in an IPL season

This brings up a pressing question, “What are Dhoni’s plan for next season”

In an interview with official broadcaster Star Sports at the time of toss, Dhoni was asked that whether this is his last IPL game for CSK – his answer was, ‘definitely not’.

Dhoni will have a task at hand when CSK return to IPL next season. The former Indian captain in the post-match conference dropped hint that fans can expect some changes in the team.

IPL 2020: CSK need to change its core group

According to Dhoni, the core group of CSK will undergo changes to claim their spot amongst the top teams in IPL.

“A lot depends on what the BCCI decides upon the auction. We need to slightly change our core group and look for the next ten years. At the start of the IPL, we made a team and it served well. There comes a time where you have to shift a bit, hand it over to the next generation.”, declared Dhoni during the post-match interview with the official broadcasters.

Dhoni also had a message for the fans that CSK will be back very strong in IPL 2021.  “We’ll come back strong, that’s what we are known for”.

“It was a difficult campaign for us. I don’t think we played to the full potential. If you are lagging too much, it becomes very difficult to push yourself and come up with performances. Very proud the way they played their cricket. It would have been very tough 6-7 games. You won’t want to be in a dressing room that is not really enjoying cricket. You want to keep coming up with different ideas but if the dressing room atmosphere is not happy, it becomes very tough”, he added.
