Mumbai Indians had won their 3rd title in 2017 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. It is notable that they had won the finals by just 1 run after managing just 129/8 in their allotted 20 overs against Rising Pune Supergiants. Krunal Pandya was the top scorer for MI in the match. The franchise had won 10 out of 14 league stage matches to qualify in the knockout stage.

Rohit Sharma-led MI are the most successful IPL team with 5 titles till date. They are also the defending champions of IPL 2021.

They managed to win as many as 4 matches in the IPL 2021 before the tournament got postponed indefinitely after COVID-19 breached the IPL franchises. As many as half-a-dozen cases were reported across four teams in the tournament.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the matches cannot take place in India with the government suggesting a third wave of COVID-19 in upcoming days.

BCCI and ECB are in talks to host the remainder of the IPL 2021 in England while UAE has emerged as the second option for the cash-rich league.
