NBA 2020 schedule: All you need to know Key Dates, NBA Draft, Free Agency, Training camps, Opening Night, Date, Time
NBA 2020: After several meetings between the NBA and the NBPA, a tentative date for the start of the 2020-21 NBA Season was decided. We could see the NBA back in action as soon as the 22nd of December for a 72-game season.
The NBA was affected severely by the Covid-19 pandemic. The league has also suffered substantial losses after the Houston Rockets’ manager Daryl Morey tweeted support for pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.
As a result, the Chinese Basketball Association suspended co-operation with the Houston Rockets, as did Chinese sportswear brand Li-Ning, and the club’s sponsor in China, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.
The NBA is hugely popular in China with around 800 million fans supporting millions of dollars of business.
NBA Key Dates for the 2020-21 Season:
November 18: NBA Draft
November 20: Free Agency starts
November 22: Free Agent signings begin
December 1: Training camps open
December 22: Opening night
A delay in the start of the 2020-21 NBA Season would have caused an additional $500 Million loss. NBA’s broadcasting partners ESPN and Turner are also happy with the pre-Christmas start.
This way the NBA postseason will also not clash with the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. With a 22 December start, the playoffs will most likely begin in May and the NBA Finals could be played 2 months later.
