NBA Draft 2020: The NBA along with the NBPA(National Basketball Players Association) has reached an agreement to amend the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement). The NBA Free Agency will start on November 20, and the teams will be permitted to sign players 2 days later on November 22.
The NBA Draft is scheduled to take place virtually on the 18th of November. The training camp will begin on December 1st. The league wants to give players more time to get accustomed to their new teams and hence, it decided to start the Free Agency just two days after the NBA Draft.
What will the salary cap and luxury tax be for the 2020-21 NBA Season?
The salary cap and the luxury tax will remain the same as the 2019-20 season. In future seasons, the cap and tax will increase by a minimum of 3 percent and a maximum of 10 percent.
For the 2020-21 season, the NBA’s salary cap will be $109.140 million and the tax level will be $132.627 million.
In an attempt to ease the tax burdens of teams that had been planning on the salary cap and luxury tax continuing to steadily rise, the NBA will reduce the luxury tax bill for teams at the end of the 2021 season by the percentage amount that the league’s Basketball Related Income declines from initial projections.
