NBA Free Agency 2020: The LA Lakers are in advanced talks with Oklahoma City on a trade for guard Dennis Schroder, according to ESPN.
The deal is expected to include OKC acquiring the Lakers’ pick at No. 28 in Wednesday’s draft. Danny Green has also been offered as a part of the deal to the Thunder.
The NBA recently revealed that it is removing the trade moratorium period on the 16th of November. Teams will be able to make trades from 12 noon ET(10:30 P.M. IST). The deal is expected to be confirmed as soon as the moratorium period ends.
While the Lakers have included Danny Green in trade talks several times, it is important to realize that Green and Schroder have almost the same salary. Therefore, the LA Lakers will not be affected by the reduced salary cap this season.
Dennis Schroder was last year’s 6th man of the year runner-up. He helped OKC add some valuable points to the total as well.
Dennis Schroder’s stats:
He averaged 18.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4 assists per contest for the Thunder. He also managed a field goal of 46.9% from inside the arc, and 38.5% from the 3-point line.
Lakers head coach Rob Pelinka and this front office have been impressed by Schroder’s style of play. If he continues to play like he did last season, he will help the Lakers offensively by giving them another creator and capable shooter.
This could be a deal that would really improve the Lakers, and so it’s easy to see why they’d be interested.
With Avery Bradley, Rajon Rondo, and Caldwell-Pope all entering the free agency this season, the LA Lakers will need depth in the guard position.
