NBA Free Agency 2020: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is re-signing with the LA Lakers on a three-year, $40 million deal, according to Shams Charania. The third year of the deal includes a partial guarantee. LeBron James was happy with this news.
This will be the fourth consecutive offseason in which Caldwell-Pope has signed a contract with the Lakers. He joined the team in 2017 after debuting with the Detroit Pistons and has been playing under one-year deals ever since.
Caldwell-Pope originally had an $8.4 million player option for this season. It was expected that he will pick that option up during the regular season.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope received plenty of interest around the league, but he and the Lakers were determined to get a deal done.
He would have had to have joined a lottery team like New York or Atlanta in order to get this kind of money elsewhere.
LeBron James was certainly happy with this news:
YESSIR @CaldwellPope!!!! Congrats my brother

Will Kentavious Caldwell-Pope help in refilming the 2019-20 NBA season for the LA Lakers?
Originally drafted No. 8 overall in 2013, KCP averaged 9.3 points and 2.1 rebounds during the 2019-20 season.
He also played a crucial role for LA Lakers during the team’s title run as he shot 37.8% from beyond the arc while averaging 10.7 points.
Caldwell-Pope will continue to slot at the 2 in a refreshed Laker lineup likely to include trade acquisition Dennis Schroder and reported addition Montrezl Harrell alongside returning anchors LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
With superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the starting lineups, the LA Lakers will get a lot of value from Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harris, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
They will be ready to defend their title in the 2020-21 NBA season.
