It has never been bigger than this for the basketball lovers in India! The Sacramento Kings and the Indiana Pacers are in Mumbai for two pre-season games on October 4 and 5 as part of the NBA’s endeavor to explore the Indian market.
The pre-season ties, called the NBA Global Games, have been taking place in England, China, and Japan for long. Mumbai is a new destination for basketball’s biggest and one of the sports’ leading leagues worldwide.
Sacramento Kings will be playing at the “home” of team owner Vivek Ranadive, an American of Indian origin who has spent his childhood in Mumbai.
The pre-season games are a serious affair that set the tone of the mega spectacle ahead for the teams as well as fans. While the teams get practice and opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses in real match atmosphere, fans get a good idea about what to look forward to the season. The highly marketed events also help increase the NBA’s overseas fan base.
The host cities of the pre-season games get to the best possible action live and promote the sport culture.
Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings are certainly not among the best NBA combines. The teams, however, have a reasonably good track record with the Indian Pacers having been to playoffs eight times in the last nine years. Kings though have played their last playoffs in 2005-2006, almost a decade and a half ago. Still, watching the games is going to be the real fun for an average Indian basketball fan as both the teams are evenly matched on their present strength.
The overall experience can better be felt LIVE than explained.
The event in Mumbai has generated a good response from fans and brands alike. With the NBA team itself heading the production watching the game on TV is going to be no less fun.
Beyond the games, there is going to be a whole lot of stuff to cheer about.
