NBA, the professional basketball league of the USA, is catching the imagination of Indian fans really fast in its bid to penetrate deeply into Indian sports market.
As two NBA teams – Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers – make their India debut with two exhibition games next month, the response from the average Indian basketball fan, the broadcaster and India incorporation is overwhelming.
The NBA India Games 2019 exhibition matches between Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers, slated for October 4 and 5 at the Dome, NSCI, SVP Stadium in Mumbai, will mark the first for the North American sports league to have its teams performing on Indian soil.
With still a fortnight to go for the big ticket events, broadcaster Sony Pictures Sports Network already has ten brands on board as associate sponsors. The sponsors include brands like Dream11, Gatorade, JBL speakers, Saavn, Myntra and Nike.
The event’s promotional video by the broadcaster has been an instant hit with the fans, registering about 27,000 views within a day of its launch on NBA India’s official Instagram page.
The 90% of the tickets for the first ever NBA matches in India were sold out within two hours when the sales were launched in the last week of August.
