Neymar Juniors departure from Paris Saint-Germain is near certain as the Brazilian striker was not been included in the squad for the Ligue 1 club’s opener on Sunday amidst talks of his move to either FC Barcelona or Real Madrid.
The Brazilian was dropped from the squad for PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Nimes, with sporting director Leonardo confirming talks with an unnamed club have progressed further than before.
“Honestly, it is not just that (transfer rumours),” Leonardo said, as quoted by ESPN.
“We are in discussions and we will see what happens. Until a decision is made, we will manage the situation. Talks exist.
“However, Neymar is also not physically ready for the match either. It is important for everybody that the future is defined. The team must be focused on the game.
“Discussions are more advanced than before, but that does not mean that there is an agreement. What needs to be defined is if he stays and plays or goes.”
Meanwhile, coach Thomas Tuchel has said that Neymar is a little injured and did not take a full week of training with the squad.
Sporting director Leonardo Araujo, back for a second stint in the role, has said Neymar can leave if a buyer is found.
Neymar had joined PSG from Barcelona in 2017 in a deal valued at a record 222 million euros ($248.60 million). However, his spell in Paris has been blighted by injuries which have kept him out of key Champions League matches.
