Star Sports, the host broadcaster for the Indian Premier League, is upbeat about the sponsorship sales for the upcoming 2020 season.
At a time when other sports properties are struggling to find sponsorship support, Star Sports has already sold about 65% of its inventory for the IPL Season 13 with still over two months left for the league start.
“The response is unprecedented in spite of a higher price tag on our (sponsorship) packages. More than 65% of inventory is sold out. We are about to close some more deals,” a Star Sports source has confirmed to InsideSport.co.
The mood in Star Sports confirms that the IPL remains immune to slowdown and other market equations as brands have queued up for IPL. Indian cricket’s leading sponsors Dream 11 and PhonePe are among a dozen brands that have already booked broadcast inventory for IPL 2020.
As reported by InsideSport.co earlier, IPL franchisees to have received an unprecedented response in sponsorship sales. Kings XI Punjab have not just managed to sell their title early, but also gained over 80% premium over last year’s ₹ 5.5 crores last-minute deal with TV Today Network.
Kings XI Punjab have signed EbixCash, also New Zealand Cricket’s ‘Powered By’ sponsor for the home series against India. The fastest rising digital exchange brand will also be seen on the back jersey of the Delhi Capitals during the IPL 2020. SunRisers Hyderabad has announced a title sponsorship deal with JK Lakshmi Cement. The JK Group brand last year was associated with Rajasthan Royals, who along with Royal Challengers Bangalore are out in the market to sell their title sponsorships.
The IPL Season 13 is scheduled to start on March 29. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has not made a formal announcement. India during its six-week tour of New Zealand will be playing five T20 Internationals, three One Day Internationals, and two Test matches.
